Homeschool in Ohio

The Ohio State Board of Education has set forth rules and guidelines for homeschooling a high school age child.    These rules are as follows:

A parent or guardian must communicate to the superintendent of schools (the superintendent may have a form with room for all of the following information:

1.       The intention to homeschool the child.

2.       The address where the education will take place.

3.       The name, phone number and address of the parent as well as for the person performing the role of teacher.

4.       The full name and birth date of the child to be homeschooled.

5.       Intention to supply a full curriculum as required by the state.

6.       An outline of the curriculum the teacher intends to use.

7.       List of texts and curriculum to be used.

8.       Parent must state that they will give the child 900 hours of instruction.

9.       Parent must show proof that the instructor will have the equivalent of a high school diploma by either a diploma, GED certificate, or standardized test scores.

In Ohio the superintendent permits the excuse of compulsory attendance.  At any time the superintendent may revoke this privilege.
